Professor Jerry Walden currently serves as the Director of the BSW Program at Spring Arbor University. Prof. Walden was an adjunct professor before joining the SAU Faculty full-time in 2018. He also serves as the Secretary of the Board of Trustees for Memorial Healthcare in Owosso, MI and on the Advisory Board of Community Christian Singles of Shiawassee County.
Formerly, he served as the Director of the Gerholz Center for Christian Counseling in Flint, MI; as the Board Chair of Shiawassee County Community Mental Health Authority, now known as Shiawassee Health and Wellness; and on the Board of Commissioners for Shiawassee County.
Prof. Walden has a Master of Divinity from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, IN, and a Master of Social Work from Michigan State University. He has completed all of the coursework for his PhD from Trinity Seminary in Newburg, IN, and is currently finishing his dissertation.
In his personal life, he is a former pastor and ordained minister. In 1989, his life trajectory changed when his wife and three children all lost their lives in a tragic automobile accident. After receiving counseling, he started on the road to becoming a social worker.
Prof. Walden now lives in Owosso, MI, with his wife Darlene. Originally from Central Illinois, he has lived in the Midwest his entire life. He and his wife have been married since 1994, and he helped her raise her two sons, who are now married with children of their own.
