Economy Lead points out that organizations engaging in meaningful conversation with their employees are increasing both productivity and morale. How?
Conversation, by definition, means back and forth is going on, an exchange of ideas – leaders are hearing from those closest to the work what’s effective and what’s not. A study done by Leadership IQ found that most employees are spending only three hours a week, often even less time, in conversations with management. Results of the study show that employees who interact with their leaders for at least six hours a week are significantly more motivated and inspired to do great work.
Leadership also benefits immensely from this valuable conversation time – they learn specifically what makes their team tick and the organizational improvements needed to grow productivity and success. But time is at a premium. How does management make these conversations happen?
The study provides four tips:
- Have 10-minute monthly conversations with employees specifically on the topic of workday motivators and demotivators.
- Ask your staffers what capabilities they personally want to improve. Continual learning opportunities are vital for morale and organizational relevancy.
- Inquire what roadblocks your team experiences, and work to remove those frustrations.
- Recognize your employees’ accomplishments. Being acknowledged for hard work motivates employees.
Today’s most successful organizations are changing their company-wide communication strategies. When face-to-face conversation is impossible, technology and interactive tools are used to exchange ideas and clarify goals.
