When Spring Arbor University MBA graduate Chrissy Siders was appointed the President and CEO of CP Federal Credit Union and CU Rx, she was already firmly dedicated to living out the Christian values that guide her life in service to her family, community and career. Many of her earlier ideas were challenged by conversations she experienced in class in SAU’s MBA program in Michigan.
Listen to Chrissy discuss how to be a Christian at work, how to live one’s faith and what the Bible says about Christian leadership.
MBA Program Digs Deeper into Scripture with Students
“Every class had some element of us having a discussion about faith. It might not have been every single week, but every class challenged us to think a little bit differently about our faith. One of the neat things about it, too, was that there were a lot of people there who hadn’t read the Bible before. Maybe they weren’t Christians. What a great opportunity it was to be able to help someone on their journey as you’re sitting in a class with a cohort of five or six people! The MBA cohort was amazing because it was just a small, intimate group throughout the entire program.”
What does the Bible say about Christian leadership and business leadership? “Every day, you were able to have conversations about your faith, but actually the biggest thing for me — and I’ve been a Christian since I was five — was how this program challenged me to get into the Bible more than I probably ever had. You know, when you become saved so young, you’re a Christian and you do it and it doesn’t challenge you as much as it does with people who become believers later in life. This program challenged me to dig a little deeper because just about every assignment required us to integrate faith into our dialog posts or into our papers. I’m a firm believer in not just throwing a verse in there to throw a verse in, but to understand the whole point of what the Bible is saying and to relate that directly to business. I was blown away by how much the Bible actually relates to leadership, business and making sure your house is in order. It helped me to grow and learn a lot.”
