What to do when times get tough in grad school

As a working adult and graduate student, it’s not unusual to find some days are easier to stay motivated than others. You’re human, after all! • Find a sympathetic ear in another graduate student, your Student Success Advisor, or friends and family outside of your program. Support is essential to your success as a graduate student
  • Organize your day, week and month in a way that forces you to manage your time. And, be realistic with your goals. Buy a planner, mark down all of your daily responsibilities and reward yourself for achieving daily goals
  • Cultivate a “buddy system” where you and a fellow student review one another’s progress. Your Student Success Advisor also will be helpful in this area
  • Use a divide-and-conquer strategy for bigger assignments. Instead of focusing on the assignments as a whole, break them down in small parts with mini-goals you can achieve an hour at a time
